Prescribed Burning as a Tool for wild life habitat improvement and wild fire prevention

Prescribed burning has been used for centuries in the coastal regions of the southeastern United States for wild fire prevention and habitat improvement.  Like our ancestors before us, we see that prescribed fire though pine stands are very important, not only to control wild fires but also as an important step in preserving and promoting wild life.  The deer thrive on the new tender growth that comes after a spring burn, and the turkey and quail thrive on the insects that come to the new growth of grasses.  Breaking a piece of property up into different burn compartments helps not only mitigate the risk of wild fire through a property, but it also helps in establishing nesting and feeding areas for turkey and quail as they raise their young flocks.  While it is too late for a 2023 cost share from NRCS through one of their cost sharing programs, it is never to early to stop by the local NRCS office in the county your land is in and sign up for next year.  They can also provide you with a list of companies that perform prescribe burning in that county.  And another added benefit to prescribe burning is it almost always helps a property to be more attractive to potential buyers if you ever decide to market your property.  With over 40 years’ experience in land management and land sales, we welcome the opportunity to work for you to help you achieve top dollar for your land asset.  If we can be of assistance to you, please fill free to contact us.
